What kind of historian am I? * ¿Qué clase de historiadora soy?
I identify myself as an activist historian. I do history to do justice to the voices of those whose histories have remained hidden and marginalized. As a Mexican woman of color with a multiethnic and multicultural past, I embrace my mestiza identity to look through the lens of my diversity and better understand their experiences.
Me identifico como una historiadora activista. Hago historia para hacerle justicia a las mujeres y los hombres cuyas historias han permanecido ocultas y marginadas. Como mexicana con un pasado multiétnico y multicultural, abrazo mi identidad mestiza para ver a través de mi diversidad sus historias y entenderlas mejor.

My research areas focus on:
- The diplomatic, transnational, and cross-cultural history of the US-Mexico border and borderlands.
- Race and ethnicity in Latin America and the United States.
- United States Immigration History focusing on violence, gender, Mexicanness, Chinese immigration, and identity.
- Migrant women of color in the US.
- The Mexican Northeast.
- La historia diplomática, transnacional y transcultural entre México y Estados Unidos.
- “Raza” y etnicidad en Latinoamérica y Estados Unidos.
- Historia migratoria de Estados Unidos con un enfoque en violencia, género, mexicanidad, migración china e identidad.
- Mujeres migrantes no blancas en EE.UU.
- El noroeste mexicano.

–I was born and raised in the Mexican northwest, in the state of Coahuila.
–My favorite place in the world is the Coyoacán market (in Mexico City). They have the best huitlacoche quesadillas in blue corn and the best elotes (I always order them with “la que pica“).
–My favorite holiday is Day of the Dead ¡There is not a year that I have not set up an altar and ofrenda to my family!
–I enjoy cooking and dancing, but whenever I do both at the same time, an accident happens in the kitchen.
–Walking brings me a lot of peace.
–My favorite episode in history ranges from the Maderista Revolution to the assassination of President Venustiano Carranza (during the Mexcian Revolution, between 1910- 1920)
– Nací y crecí en el noroeste mexicano, en el estado de Coahuila.
Mi lugar favorito en el mundo es el mercado de Coyoacán. Tienen las mejores quesadillas de huitlacoche en maíz azul y los mejores elotes (siempre los pido con “la que pica”).
–Mi festividad favorita es Día de Muertos¡ No hay año que no les ponga su altar y ofrenda a mi familia!
–Disfruto mucho de cocinar y bailar, pero siempre que hago las dos al mismo tiempo pasa un accidente en la cocina.
–Caminar me trae mucha paz.
–Mi episodio favorito en la historia comprende desde la Revolución Maderista hasta el asesinato de Carranza.
